ASSESSMENTS PRIOR TO ADMISSION
HCA provides developmental testing to discern kindergarten and preschool readiness. In addition, Transitional Kindergarten is offered as an extra step between preschool and kindergarten. The Gesell Developmental Assessment is administered to preschool/kindergarten applicants to aid parents and teachers in discerning the developmental (rather than the chronological) age of each child. The test requires an appointment and will last approximately 45 minutes. Results will be shared and discussed in a follow-up conference with the parent. There is a fee for this assessment
Students applying for 1st grade are given the Woodcock Johnson III Test of Cognitive Abilities and possibly an informal academic assessment. Students applying for 2nd through 12th grades are given the Woodcock Johnson III Test of Cognitive Abilities and Achievement. The assessment is scheduled and takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Results will be shared and discussed in a follow-up conference with the parent. There is a fee for this assessment.
